Professor Brian Williams

Professor Brian Williams is the Interim Deputy Principal for Academic and Research at UHI, as well as a Professor of Behavioural Science and Health Services Research. With over 30 years of experience in higher education, he has held a range of academic and management roles across multiple Scottish universities since 1998. His expertise spans both medical schools and schools of health, where he has played a key role in developing curricula, research capacity, and academic culture.

In management, Brian brings over 15 years of senior leadership experience, overseeing learning and teaching, research initiatives, organisational restructuring, and workload management. His leadership roles have included serving as Head of School, Faculty, and Thematic Dean, with responsibilities in all academic areas. Notably, he served as Dean for Research Enhancement at the University of Stirling and led research efforts at Edinburgh Napier University.

In addition to his academic leadership, Brian was the Director of the Scottish Government’s Chief Scientist Office Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professions Research Unit, where he contributed to advancing research in healthcare disciplines.
