Laura Hinds
BSc Oral Health Science, 2019
“I studied the BSc in Oral Health Science with the University of the Highlands Islands between 2016 and 2019 and graduated at Eden Court that autumn. The course literally changed my life, as it allowed me to venture out of Essex- which I probably never would have otherwise! It was lovely to be so rural.
In my first year of qualifying, I worked as a Dental Therapist across three different mixed NHS and private practices, but after lockdown I am now based in one private practice in Suffolk. I have also written for the BDJ, and FMC Young Dentist Magazine, and I am part way through my Post Graduate Diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry and have just qualified in Facial aesthetics and dermal lip fillers. I hope to continue my post graduate learning within dentistry and one day hope to complete my MSc at UHI in the future.
I had the best three years at UHI. I met some great people from tutors to students and seeing a new place was such an eye-opening experience which I would strongly recommend to anyone. It definitely built my character and gave me much more confidence. Everyone was patient, friendly and made me feel at home and I’ve come away with friends for life in both the tutors and the friends I met on the course.
I without a doubt loved my time at the University of the Highlands and Islands and enjoyed the mix of online and face to face learning even before the lockdown! They trust you from the offset and treat you as an adult, and without the course I wouldn’t have been able to progress from Dental Nursing to Dental Therapy."
