Special features
- Support for HNC students who wish to complete Higher English and National 5 Maths while working on the HNC
- Successful graduates will be eligible to progress into the national induction scheme for teachers. You will be supported to enter this through joint work with the GTCS
- Study at UHI Perth with well-equipped engineering and construction workshops, as well as digital and creative laboratories

Entry requirements
- 3 Scottish Highers at grades BBC or above in English plus at least one from Maths, Physics, Engineering Science, Graphic Communication, or Design and Manufacture OR
- 2 A levels at grades BC or above in English, plus one preferred from Maths, Design and Technology or Physics
- You must also have National 5 Mathematics or Applications of Maths at grade C OR
- GCSE Maths at grade C
- Alternatively, SCQF Level 6 NC qualification such as NC Engineering Systems, along with the GTCS required National 5 Maths and Higher English
- Successful applicants will be required to attend an interview. This will include a collaborative activity, written task and discussion
- This is a Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course. For further information visit our PVG scheme webpage
Advanced entry to year two
- Advanced entry may be possible with HNC Engineering Systems (grade B)
- Higher English and National 5 Maths are also required as a GTCS requirement
- HNC routes may require bridging units depending on units studied in HNC
- Other HNC routes may be acceptable depending on the structure of HNC
- You must also have recent voluntary or work experience in a secondary school

How will I study my course?
- Full-time
- You will mainly study in-person, on campus (30%) and in self-directed study (30%)
- You will also study online (20%) and undertake industry and educational placements in each year of study (20% in years 1 and 2, 30% in years 3 and 4)
- Online study will be done via the university's virtual learning environment (VLE), with support from your tutors

- Full-time: 4 years @ 30 hours per week

EU/EEA and Swiss nationals without settled or pre-settled status in the UK
Following the UK’s departure from the European Union, the Scottish Government confirmed that EU/EEA and Swiss nationals, who do not have settled or pre-settled status, will be considered as international for fee purposes. Students will get an automatic scholarship of £4,000 per annum and the 4th year of study will be free for those studying full-time, on continuous study, who have paid for the previous three years at the University of the Highlands and Islands.
This includes EEA/Swiss nationals with pre-settled status who are not self-employed or migrant workers in the UK.

A no fee increase guarantee is available for self-funding full-time and structured part-time rest of the UK, EU and international undergraduate students for continuous study for the same award, up to the permitted standard time limit for the relevant award.

Additional costs
You will be offered school placements near to your home or term address, this may involve some additional travel costs. A structured support for additional travel costs will be put in place for school experience modules.
What can I do on completion of my course?
All graduates who meet the SPR will enter an induction year contract with a local authority. Successful completion of an induction year will qualify you to teach Technological Education in Scotland. Current vacancy figures suggest that all successful graduates will be able to follow a career in teaching.
The range of knowledge and skills in this degree will also support you to work in a range of related careers, particularly in engineering and design related industries.
