Entry requirements

  • One Scottish Higher at grade C or above or equivalent OR
  • Relevant further education studies, such as NC, NPA, SVQ, CBQ, HNC, HND, PDA at SCQF level 6 or above OR
  • Equivalent industrial experience 
  • If English is not your first language, you must have evidence of your English language skills (reading and writing) to IELTS level 5.5 or equivalent

CPD Award

You will choose three of the following modules:

  • Manage fish farm operations and production 
  • Manage fish health and welfare 
  • Manage hatchery operations and production
  • Manage health and safety for the production environment
  • Manage shellfish farm operations and production
  • Managing aquaculture quality systems and certification
  • Sustainable aquaculture practice

How will I study my course?

  • Part-time
  • You will study fully online, with no scheduled sessions or tutorials
  • Online study will be done via the university's virtual learning environment (VLE), with support from your tutors available throughout, via email, phone, and live video calls
  • All students are welcome to use the campus facilities at UHI Shetland or any UHI academic partner facilities such as the library etc
  • You will complete 1 module every 3 months, over a period of 9 months
  • Your choice of start date will determine your end date, as follows: 
    • September start = May finish
    • January start = September finish
    • May start = January finish
  • You will take part in a mandatory induction, either in-person at UHI Shetland or online, the month before your course starts (August/December/April)

How long will my course last?

  • Part-time: 9 months @ 15 hours per week

The number of hours per week indicates the total number of hours you should dedicate to the course, which includes time spent on online material as well as individual study and research.
