MERIKA wave data collection in the press

Work undertaken by Lews Castle College at the Butt of Lewis features in the Journal of the Northern Lighthouse Board

The MERIKA team at Lews Castle College set up an x-band radar at the lighthouse of the Butt of Lewis in order to collect wave data.

X-band radars are traditionally used for ship navigation, but they are also an invaluable tool to collect reliable wave data in addition to other tools that are deployed in the water.

The project has been privileged to be able to use the lighthouse for this purpose, and it is quite a sight as it marries historical engineering and architecture with research for future energy.

The x-band radar is now able to collect 1GB of wave data in 12 minutes.
