John Macdonald
Gallanan Buidhe Fodhairis: Imperial Gaelic Jacobites, 1746–1763
Supervised by Dr Jim MacPherson, Dr Domhnall Uilleam Stiùbhart and Dr Mairi MacPherson
John’s PhD research is focused on the social, economic and cultural transformation of the Jacobite Gàidhealtachd between the final rising and the end of the Seven Years’ War. The assessment of& this critical juncture in Highland history is complimented by conceptual perspectives (social network analysis) derived from recent historical network approaches.
Over the last decade, John has combined running his own guided tours business with part-time studies and has completed a BA in Scottish History and an MLitt in British Studies, both at the UHI. John credits the learning flexibility of these courses as instrumental in developing his strong interest in the history of the Gàidhealtachd during the eighteenth century.
