Robert Louis Stevenson: Literary innovator or commercial imitator?

Research Abstract

Robert Louis Stevenson (RLS) was an innovative and influential writer in several genres of literature including travel, adventure, historic fiction, science fiction and poetry.  His experiences in America and how he observed and documented the human condition lead to his most prolific period and laid the groundwork for his success in numerous other genres. 

Biography

For the past 3 years I have been working with professors at UHI Orkney towards the completion of an M.Litt (Scottish Heritage).  My dissertation project on Robert Louis Stevenson sparked an interest in this topic that I would like to pursue in more depth.  I am a lifelong learner with 2 undergrad and 3 graduate degrees in a wide variety of topics that have mostly been related to furthering my career.  The opportunity to obtain a doctorate in a topic that is purely based on personal interest and advancing an academic body of knowledge is rare.  Given that I have the time, resources and interest to pursue this topic, I would welcome the opportunity.
