PhD and MRes Opportunities
MRes:
We offer an MRes (Master by Research) within areas related to the culture, history, archaeology, literature, languages and area studies of the North Atlantic areas.
MRes students may work from anywhere in the world or be based at one of the Institute for Northern Studies’ campuses in Orkney, Shetland or Perth. All MRes students work with a supervisor team, who is an expert in the field in order to produce a substantial piece of independent research. Please view our staff pages for more information about available supervisors and their individual areas of expertise.
Once completed, an MRes degree can be counted as the first year of a PhD. MRes students are in regular contact with the university's Graduate School, which offers a large number of relevant training courses and workshops as well as general support.
Practical information: An MRes should be completed within 1 year of full-time study (or 2 years part-time). More information can be found on the UHI website.
Application: Please contact Dr Andrew Lind by email for an initial chat about ideas and possibilities.
