Gael in Edinburgh

CIALL continues to support the Island Voices Extensions initiative, through which the Hebrides-based project applies its community-based "language capture and curation” model to new situations and contexts. Edinburgh-based writer Martin MacIntyre is the latest focus of this approach.

Raised in Lenzie, and a longterm Edinburgh resident, bilingual Martin MacIntyre also reveals a close Hebridean connection through his family history, and through his writing in both Gaelic and English. In his “Gael in Edinburgh” collection he talks about these and other topics in free conversation and through scripted documentary narrative, while also reciting some choice poems from his extensive repertoire. Building on his recent multilingual “A’ Ruith Eadar Dà Dhràgon” collection, the documentary is also rendered in Catalan and Welsh, in addition to English and Gaelic in a further development of the Island Voices “Other Tongues” initiative to develop links and exchanges with other language communities, both within and beyond the UK.
