PhD Student Event
Common Themes, Imagined Futures (5 & 6 June 2019)
Invitation for Papers, Presentations and Posters
Any and all PhD students and early career researchers across the UHI partnership who consider themselves to be members of the Humanities and Arts Research Cluster (HARC) are invited to submit proposals for a relatively informal get-together in Inverness in June.
The event is based loosely around the idea of Common Themes, Imagined Futures which could be interpreted as a counterpoint to the concurrent Ruination and Decay series of lectures and events running throughout 2019.
HARC members examine the local importance of our people and communities, cultures and heritage, Gaelic and Scots, creativity, migration and memory, balancing a local interpretation of these topics with a parallel and wider global assessment of our societal challenges, resilience and opportunities.
We would like to invite speakers to present their current thinking and/or latest findings in the areas of archaeology, history including social history, literatures and languages, the creative industries, music, visual art, textiles, ethnology, food and drink, tourism, digital futures and any other related HARC fields. Proposals from students who may not have had the opportunity to present their work previously are especially welcome.
We anticipate allowing 20 minutes for papers and presentations, with 10 minutes for questions, but there is a certain amount of flexibility especially if your preferred format takes a particularly innovative or creative form. There is a display space for posters should anyone wish to contribute in this medium.
We already have some confirmed speakers, offering research perspectives from students and tips and advice from early careers researchers who have already trodden the path through their viva!
To send proposals of no more than 200 words, or for any further information, email Gordon Cameron, on behalf of the organising group: 08006097@uhi.ac.uk by 14.00h on Friday 10th May 2019.
The event will be held at the Centre for Life Sciences, Old Perth Road, Inverness, IV2 3JH
