July 2021 - One Year On: ‘The Gaelic Crisis in the Vernacular Community’
Friday 2nd July, 11-12.30pm
To mark the anniversary of the publication of the Gaelic Crisis in the Vernacular Community last July, the UHI’s HARC and SILK Research Clusters, in conjunction with the UHI Language Sciences Institute, are hosting a panel discussion to examine the issues which have arisen from the study’s findings and recommendations.
Prof. Conchúr Ó Giollagáin, one of the co-authors of the Gaelic Crisis study, will introduce the topic and give his perspective on what has transpired since the publication of this landmark Soillse report. This talk will be followed by a panel discussion by various community representatives who will share their opinions on the Gaelic Crisis and explore future options for Gaelic communities.
Panelists include Jane NicLeòid from Leòdhas; Pàdruig Moireasdan from Uibhist; Iain MacKinnon from An t-Eilean Sgitheanach and Rhoda Meek from Tiriodh.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to share their perspectives and ask questions
