Aquaculture Research and Innovation
Aquaculture Environment
Through modelling and monitoring, sampling and analysis, we can help aquaculture understand better the interactions between the cultivated stocks and the cultivation environment.
There are many opportunities where we can work together – and in some cases even access funding.

Harmful Algal Bloom Modelling and HABreports
Harmful Algal Bloom Modelling and HABreports
Through a combination of advanced modelling, atmospheric weather forecasts, unstructured-grid finite volume community ocean modelling (FVCOM), and nearshore resolution up to 100 meters, this system offers a robust framework for predicting the behavior of HABs. The coupling of weather and oceanographic data provides aquaculture businesses with the necessary information to anticipate and mitigate the impact of harmful blooms on shellfish and finfish production.
The HABReports.org web portal serves as the operational interface for this early warning system. It offers both map-based and time-series visualizations, using a 'traffic light' index to indicate areas with elevated risk of HABs or biotoxins. This allows aquaculture practitioners to quickly assess potential risks and take appropriate action to ensure food safety and industry compliance.
Circular Ocean
Circular Ocean
Circular Ocean's approach to addressing marine plastic waste aligns with global efforts to combat environmental degradation and promote a more sustainable future.
The project's focus on community empowerment, eco-innovation, and transnational collaboration demonstrates a comprehensive strategy for reducing marine litter while fostering economic growth in remote regions.
The outcomes of this project not only benefit the NPA region but also offer valuable insights for tackling marine plastic waste on a broader scale.
