Knowledge Exchange (KE) connects research and scholarship to businesses, public agencies and communities.
We work collaboratively to address the unique challenges and opportunities in the region.

Knowledge Exchange - Sector Groups at UHI
In response to the important business sectors in the Highlands and Islands, UHI has setup a number of Hubs and Sector Groups.
These KE Sector Groups bring together UHI researchers, educators, consultants, students and facilities.

Aquaculture is the UK’s biggest export and most occurs in our region, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. With a local delivery and links to global networks we are supporting growth and resilience in the aquaculture sector.

Scotland’s water resource is of central importance to our economy and our group addresses challenges associated with water quality, wastewater, resource management and One Health approaches.

Our tourism group helps engagement with local communities and develops new products and services though knowledge exchange in the disciplines of history, archaeology, languages, business services,
training, hospitality, adventure tourism, culture, and heritage.

This group aims to support communities, organisations and businesses to navigate the ever-changing ways in which land is owned, used and managed, which continues to have significant implications for the sustainability of the region.

Creative Economy
Creative industries contribute over £100 billion to the UK economy and the Highlands and Islands has a diverse and pro-active community of creatives engaged in excellent and innovate productions. We work with businesses to achieve better outcomes and to increase involvement of the local community.
