A Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services and Healthcare helps you discover what a career in healthcare would be like, and if it’s right for you - while you’re still at school.
Studying this award will give you a real insight into working within the health, care and social services sector, allowing you to achieve an industry recognised qualification so that you have the necessary qualifications to gain employment within the social services and health care sector or to enhance your university application by gaining a qualification specifically for those wishing to work within the sector at any level.
Foundation Apprenticeships are work-based learning opportunities as part of the senior phase offering. Foundation Apprenticeships are about getting out of the classroom and into the workplace, providing the combination of a recognised qualification and valuable work place experience in some of Scotland’s most exciting and growth industries.

Higher Education
- HNC or HND Social Care subject eg:
- BSc Nursing
- BA (Hons) Social Sciences
- BA (Hons) Health & Social Studies
- BSc (Hons) Psychology
(Additional qualifications are required for entry onto these courses)
Modern Apprenticeship (training and employment)
- Healthcare & Social Services – SCQF Level 7
Further careers could lead to Adult or Children’s Nurse, Care Home Manager, Social Worker, Senior Care Worker or Midwife.
