Become a UHI student content creator!
Do you enjoy creating videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube? Perhaps you’re making content for your own pages already – join our team of student content creators and get paid for your student life videos!
What we’re looking for:
- Short videos sharing a bit about your life as a student. Stuck for ideas? We’ll share some suggestions below. (We’ll also occasionally put calls out via email for seasonal content!)
- Short-form, portrait video is preferred, as we’ll be sharing them on our TikTok and Instagram pages.
- Longer-form, landscape content can be shared too on our YouTube channel. We'd prefer you supply us with multiple clips and/or voiceover so we can select what we need.
What you’ll get out of it:
- £50 for each video/content piece, sent via your choice of bank transfer or Amazon gift voucher.
- An opportunity to promote your Instagram/TikTok/Youtube channels using our platform – and a chance to share your studies (creative students: this is a prime chance to share your work!)
- An opportunity to develop your digital marketing and media skills, with support from our team.
- A great boost for your CV!

Will I be employed by UHI?
No – as a student content creator you will be paid on an ad-hoc basis for content you send to us. It’s a great way to earn some extra cash while studying, without the pressure of a formal contract or expectation to create regular content.
How will my content be used?

You’ll likely see your video(s) pop up on our Instagram, TikTok and YouTube pages, occasionally with some editing to fit our house style (eg. adding our logo and captions).
We might repurpose clips from your content in future videos and campaigns too.

Here’s some ideas for video topics (with linked examples):
- A day in the life: [your course] student edition (example 1 / example 2 / example 3)
- Showing something that you’re currently working on (a painting, a piece of music, a performance etc)
- Uni bag tour – what’s in your bag? Stop-motion style works well for these! (example)
- ‘5 reasons to study [your course] with UHI’
- A montage of your clips with music (example 1 / example 2)
We’re also looking to celebrate your local campus areas, and would love to see:
- Road trips around your local area (example 1)
- Your favourite coffee spot/food places/bars/hotspots in your town (example)
- A local event (example 1 / example 2)
You’re welcome to use editor templates to put your video clips together such as Capcut or Canva – but please make sure there are no watermarks.

There’s lots of great resources and tutorials online on how to make videos for TikTok and Instagram Reels. Here’s some of our favourites:

Apart from the obvious (swearing, violence, alcohol/drugs, not safe for work (NSFW), and other inappropriate content), there are a few other things we ask our content creators to avoid:
- No TikTok/CapCut/other editor watermarks
- If you’re using CapCut to edit, please remember to take off the default ending!
- Please don’t write your @username on the video - we are happy to credit you in the post text/add you as collaborator if you’d like
- Avoid fancy fonts where possible – stick with default fonts (they’re boring, we know, but we want our content to be as accessible as possible). We may ask you to change or remove the text so that we can add it ourselves for accessibility too.
- Try to avoid using still images in your videos, unless still images are integral to the editing style (eg you’re recreating a TikTok/reels trend)

If you already have a video that you’d like to share with us, drop us an email at communications@uhi.ac.uk with a link or the file!
Most of the time, video files are too big to send via email. We recommend using our Dropbox service available for students and staff or an alternative free file sharing service such as WeTransfer, or sharing a Google Drive link.
