LGBTQ+ student and staff hub
At UHI, inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. In February 2024, during LGBT History Month, UHI and eight of our partners proudly joined the Scottish LGBTI+ Rainbow Mark initiative. This milestone highlights our unwavering commitment to creating inclusive, supportive spaces across the Highlands and Islands, Moray, and Perthshire.
The Rainbow Mark, developed in collaboration with LGBTI+ communities, is a powerful tool designed to enhance visibility, promote inclusion, reduce isolation, and foster welcoming environments throughout Scotland. By embracing this initiative, UHI reinforces its dedication to ensuring that every campus and learning centre is a safe, affirming space where LGBTI+ students, staff, and the wider community feel empowered and valued.
Whether you're here to learn, work or connect, our LGBTQ+ Hub stands as a beacon of support and belonging for all. Together, we’re building a future that celebrates diversity and thrives on inclusivity.
Join us in creating a UHI partnership where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

Inverness Kiki Family
The Inverness meetup is an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community, including women, men, non-binary, trans, cis, genderqueer individuals and allies. Designed to help people connect, it offers a safe environment for making friends, enjoying social activities, and building meaningful relationships.
LEAP Sport Scotland
LEAP Sports Scotland (Leadership, Equality and Active Participation in Sports for LGBTI people in Scotland) works for greater inclusion for LGBTQ+ people in sport and against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in a sports context. They maintain a map of local LGBTQ+ friendly sports clubs, and work closely with them. Click the image to find out more about joining, or registering, an LGBTQ+ inclusive sports club.
LBGT Social Events Calendar
LGBT Health & Wellbeing host this live social calendar, so you can find and participate in events across Scotland. Some are online, and all are designated safe spaces. They welcome the diversity of the LGBT community including non-binary, queer, intersex, asexual people, people exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, and those who do not use labels.
LGBT Youth Scotland - Local Clubs for Under 25s
LGBT Youth Scotland are Scotland’s national charity for LGBTI young people. They host an interactive map of clubs that they and other organisations run, usually for 13–25-year-olds. They also run a digital group for those across the Highlands and Islands, called The Outlanders. Click the image to discover more opportunities with LGBT Youth Scotland.

'Pride' is a celebration and recognition of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month takes place every year in June (though events and opportunities might be year-round!) and is marked by various events, parades, festivals, and activities that promote visibility, acceptance, and equality for LGBTQ+ individuals.
Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall riots, which occurred in June 1969 and are considered a significant milestone in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. It serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, advocate for equal rights, and celebrate the diversity and accomplishments of LGBTQ+ individuals.
