Interpretation planning sits at the heart of designing meaningful and engaging visitor experiences. Our CPD Award Planning Visitor Experiences (SCQF level 11) module introduces you to the principles and practice of interpretation planning as a core tool for shaping how visitors understand, connect with, and experience places.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of how to plan, design and evaluate visitor experiences, developing the skills to critically analyse the complexities of creating effective interpretation strategies. The module emphasises the role of interpretation planning within wider heritage and tourism contexts, highlighting how it can be used to deliver impactful, audience-focused experiences.
Through a combination of theory and practice, you will explore:
- the purpose and process of interpretation planning
- the effectiveness of different approaches to visitor experience design
- the application of theoretical frameworks within interpretive practice
- the central role of visitor studies and audience insight in shaping experiences
- the links between interpretation planning, organisational objectives and policy and
- the importance of planning in strategic resource management and decision-making
Engage with real-world examples and develop your own ideas, as you learn how to create interpretation plans that support coherent, inclusive and compelling visitor experiences across a range of settings.
