Micro group teaching, 1:1 and peer to peer learning, have been discovered to be the most efficient and motivational of all educational interventions. The commitment to ‘deep’ learning and the potential for innovative questions and solutions to appear is much higher when using coaching techniques. However, these key skills are typically only encountered in the worlds of business, sport, the creative industries and the arts (unless you were a student at Oxford or Cambridge). But now many universities are realising the benefits of coaching and mentoring for the supervision of research, teaching, facilitation and peer to peer communication for personal development.
In this fast paced workshop you will be given an introduction to the following:
- how to set up and run a mentoring/coaching session
- how to design a series of regular coaching sessions
- how to agree goals and measure progress through action
- active listening and reflective skills
- systems for giving and receiving feedback that motivates development
- GROW and STAR coaching models
- using ‘thinking hats’ and other creative agents to unstick sticky problems
- gravity problems
- how to empower learning through questions and not statements
- how mentoring works in reverse and why our imperfections are often our USP
