Outline
This two-day event will focus on the notion of Sustainable assessment and feedback practices; those which seek to reduce staff and student overload, whilst still offering authentic, meaningful, and engaging experiences for students.
Modularisation has undoubtedly led to an increase in assessment-related tasks for both staff and students. However, this increase has not necessarily led to an improvement in student learning, or the student or staff experience: some assessments such as closed book exams promote surface over deep learning, and traditional assessment methods such as essays require a huge amount of staff time in terms of marking and feedback. Sustainable assessment seeks to reduce the volume but increase the impact of assessment and feedback practices.
This event will take place online and features a mixture of presentations, hands-on workshops, and question and answer sessions to allow participants to learn about the different aspects of sustainable assessment, and how these can be implemented in the classroom.
Presentations include:
- Enhancing assessment and feedback for everyone: exploring multiple 'sustainabilities': Keynote address by Juliet Eve, University of Brighton
- Programme-focussed assessmnent: Douglas Barr and Dr Tom McCallum, Applied Software Development, UHI
- The role of group assessments in the development of graduate attributes: Lizzie Hall, Oral Health Science, UHI
