Anna-Wendy is the third generation in the Stevenson family line of composer/performers. She has performed and delivered workshops in traditional Scottish music world-wide and curated and directed events for a wide range of organisations, communities, media groups and festivals in the UK, Canada, USA, Australia and Europe.
For the past decade Anna-Wendy has led the traditional music programmes for Lews Castle College UHI in Benbecula, designing and delivering dynamic courses which have produced many of today’s award-winning traditional musicians.
She successfully led the development, curriculum design and delivery of the of the innovative multi-genre BA (Hons) applied music degree which is delivered across the Highlands and Islands and beyond and has been highly commended for the facilitation of ‘national and international engagement’. Anna-Wendy has helped shape new operational frameworks and facility for course design and staff engagement, and acts as consultant and external examiner for higher education institutions.
Anna-Wendy has gained several awards for her work in education (MG Alba Scots Trad Music Tutor of the Year 2018) and lecturer with the University of the Highlands and Islands (Highlands and Islands Video Conference Lecturer of the Year 2016), and her work on the community education project Far Flung Corners made the finals of the Herald Higher Education Awards 2017.
Anna-Wendy is actively involved with pedagogical research with the University of the Highlands and Islands Learning and Teaching Academy, and as a graduate of the Aurora Leadership programme she mentors staff across the university network. She is also graduate of the Engage Arts Extend Leadership Programme, for educators in the cultural sector.
Current research
Anna-Wendy’s research spans the pedagogy surrounding blended learning on a networked, multi-genre and practical based degree programme to professional engagement through performance practice and composition. Research projects include: ‘Far Flung Corners’ - collaboration and cultural exchange with partners Soundstorm Music Education Agency from Dorset, ‘Fuaran nan Eilean’ - a heritage research project in partnership with Feisean nan Gaidheal and ‘Òrain na Cloinne Bige’ - music for a new Gaelic language Early Years online learning resource in partnership with the Multi Media Unit of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
