I am an interdisciplinary researcher of early modern History, 1450-1750, with particular interests in moments of Franco-Italian interchange.
I hold a First in History from Warwick University, a Masters in Medieval History and and a Masters in Computer Science from York, followed by a PhD in History from London.
My PhD focused on the French occupation of Milan, their first 'colonial' experiment, under Louis XII and Francis I. Entitled 'The forgotten patrons: the governors of French Milan, 1499-1522' it considered the careers of Gian Giacomo Trivulzio and Odet de Foix.
I have worked in UK and French universities, including teaching in Venice for Warwick University, and three years at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers in Paris. I also lived in a very rural part of France for 6 years, restoring a very manky old house and coping with a very different way of life!
I have published widely in academic volumes and journals, and have also written general interest books on the history of fashion.
