The lecture, at Eden Court, Inverness on Thursday 22 December from 7-9pm, will be presented by David Sutherland of the Tulloch Group, which is sponsoring the new event with Ness Castle Lodges Ltd.

“We are absolutely delighted to be hosting this, our first ever Christmas Lecture,” said Principal and Vice-Chancellor, James Fraser. “We hope this will be an annual event to celebrate personal and business success in the Highlands and islands. David Sutherland is a role model of what can be achieved by entrepreneurial flair and business acumen.”

“It is a special privilege to be invited to give the first Christmas Lecture for the University of the Highlands and Islands,” said David Sutherland, CEO of the Tulloch Group.

“The university is a shining light of potential in these challenging economic times. It will be a key social, educational and economic driver for the area for decades to come. I congratulate all who have played their part in delivering university status and I encourage all its communities to engage ever more closely with its network of colleges and learning centres. The new jobs and new opportunities the Highlands and islands needs to meet the immediate and future challenges will, in significant part, be triggered by partnerships between the university, business and the public and voluntary sectors.”

Taking place in Eden Court’s One Touch Theatre, the evening will also feature music from singer Fiona Kennedy and performers from ‘The Kist’, a musical production celebrating home grown talent by telling the musical story of the Scots from the tribal rhythms of the Gael to the upbeat music of today. University of the Highlands and Islands student musicians will also join the company from Benbecula.

The event, also sponsored by the Press & Journal, will be broadcast live via global web cast by www.invernesstv.net, will be followed by a drinks and Christmas canapés reception overlooking the Christmas lights on the river Ness.
