University staff raise cash for Hospice

University of the Highlands and Islands employees raised over £360 for the Highland Hospice by taking part in the charity’s Black Isle Cycle Challenge on Saturday. The team completed the 20 mile route in two hours.

Anne Walker (32) from Lochardil, Inverness, was one of the staff members who took part in the event. Speaking about the challenge, she said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the 20 mile cycle. There were fantastic views, we had fantastic team spirit and we were raising money for a fantastic charity!”

Roger Sendall (41) from Culbokie also took part in the event. He said: “What a great day! We had perfect weather for cycling. Our team, aged between nine and 64, all completed the 20 mile road route around the beautiful Black Isle in around two hours. Well done to Highland Hospice for organising such a fun family event. We will definitely be back next year. Thanks so much to all who have donated so far towards the great work of the Hospice via our Justgiving webpage.”

University staff voted Highland Hospice as their charity of 2013. They are taking part in a number of events to raise money for the organisation over the course of the year.

Amanda Burt, Highland Hospice’s community and events fundraiser said: “Thank you to all of the University of the Highlands and Islands staff who raised funds for the Hospice by participating in our Black Isle Cycle Challenge. It was wonderful to see them all in great spirit on the day. We are delighted and grateful to be their chosen charity of 2013.”
