Inverness Science Festival goes with a bang
The organisers of Inverness Science Festival 2015 have hailed it a “fantastic success” with participant numbers exceeding expectations. Over 4,500 people attended events around the city over the course of the 10-day festival.
This year’s festival was organised by the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) team at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Events included a talk on using DNA in family history research at the Highland Archive Centre, an insect-themed badge making session at Simpsons Garden Centre and a discussion on weather forecasting at Tiso on Henderson Road.
A programme of school events ran alongside the public programme and the festival culminated with a family day at Inverness Leisure on Saturday 9 May which was attended by over 1300 people.
The university’s STEM engagement officer Derek Gorrie said: “The event was a fantastic success. Fun was had by all, the audience numbers exceeded our expectations and we had lots of positive feedback. We hope that the festival helped to inspire people of all ages to find out more about science.
“The support and enthusiasm from the festival team, volunteers and the general public was amazing. We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the festival and we look forward to it being even bigger, better and brighter next year!”
