Shetland to the Stars! Free family fun day in partnership with Dynamic Earth
From Shetland to the Stars: free family fun day with Dynamic Earth and UHI Shetland
UHI Shetland and Dynamic Earth are proud to announce our upcoming free family fun day From Shetland to the Stars on Saturday 2nd March 2024, at our Scalloway Campus.
The highlight of the day will undoubtedly be the inflatable planetarium shows as well as meeting the Dynamic Earth’s Resident Astronomers. There will be many other fun drop-in space themed activities for children of all ages throughout the day too, including a visit from Shetland Library’s Bookbug at 11:15am.
Sessions in the planetarium will start from 11:15am on the day and continue until 4pm and shows last 25 minutes. Booking is essential for places in the planetarium sessions. Bookings can be made via Eventbrite and all sessions are free.
James Fawcett, Planetarium Assistant Manager at Dynamic Earth, said “After the success of last year’s ‘Discover the Deep’ family day focused on Scotland’s deep ocean, we are thrilled to be returning to Shetland! For this years’ family day, we will be looking up ‘From Shetland to the Stars’ as our resident astronomers bring along their inflatable planetarium shows and out-of-this-world activities. Dynamic Earth is committed to a positive future for us and our planet and, through our national outreach programme, we aim to reach rural and remote communities across Scotland. It’s such an exciting time to be coming to Shetland, with Unst’s Saxavord Spaceport placing you right at the heart of the UK’s future space industry, and that’s before even mentioning how jealous we are of your dark, pollution free night skies! Many thanks to UHI for hosting us at the Scalloway Campus - we hope to see you all there!”
Eleanor Hutcheon, STEM Coordinator at UHI Shetland said “Continuing our partnership with Dynamic Earth is a really exciting opportunity for us at UHI Shetland. We’re delighted to host the planetarium and look forward to seeing many people – young and old – at our Scalloway Campus on the day to explore the cosmos.”
