UHI Inverness student receives Royal honour for volunteer role

A UHI Inverness student has received The King’s Award for Voluntary Service during a Royal visit to a Moray charity.

Dylon Ford (19) from Auldearn dismantles disused computers every Thursday at ReBOOT in Forres, a social enterprise that recycles and reuses IT equipment. The Princess Royal, Princess Anne visited its premises to present ReBOOT with its King’s Award for Voluntary Service. She then spent some time chatting to Dylon about his work and afterwards he was presented with his individual award by the Lord Lieutenant of Moray.

Dylon said: “I’ve always been interested in computers and how they work, and I’ve been volunteering at ReBOOT for two years. It was really nice to meet Princess Anne and she asked me what I do there every Thursday. I was really pleased to receive the award and it is really good that we’ve been recognised for what we do for the community.”

Dylon has been studying at UHI Inverness for three years and is currently on the Skills Connect: Create Me course. He has been accepted to study Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and intends to progress through the qualifications with ambitions to become a fully qualified mechanic.
