UHI staff win Aberdeen Convention Bureau Collaboration Award

The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is proud to announce that two of its staff members have won the Collaboration Award from the Aberdeen Convention Bureau (ACB). This award recognises the efforts of the local organising committee that brought the ‘13th International Council for Nurses’ Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Practice Nursing Network Conference’ to Aberdeen.

Dr Heather Bain, Associate Head of the UHI Centre for Rural Health Sciences, and Professor Kathleen Carolan, Director of Nursing and Acute Services at NHS Shetland and Visiting Professor at UHI, were instrumental in securing, organising and delivering the conference, which took place in September 2024. The event attracted over 810 delegates from 46 countries.

The local organising committee also included Professor Nicola Carey, Head of the UHI Centre for Rural Health Sciences, and representatives from Robert Gordon University and the University of Dundee.

At an event hosted by ACB, part of VisitAberdeenshire, a range of awards celebrated those responsible for bringing 77 national and international conferences and events to the North of Scotland, worth £52 million to the regional economy during 2023 and 2024.

Dr Bain said:

“The local organising committee is delighted to have won this award. Bringing this conference to Aberdeen was a significant achievement, that required considerable collaboration over time to ensure its success. We were proud to showcase the multi-professional models of advanced practice that have developed across Scotland and to network with colleagues across the UK and internationally”
