Celebrating the Stone of Destiny
On Saturday 14 March our Interim Head of UHI Centre for History, Dr Lucy Dean, was one of several speakers at Culture Perth and Kinross' Stone of Destiny Symposium, along with UHI Institute for Northern Studies colleague, Prof Alex Sanmark, and former Centre for History external examiner Prof Dauvit Broun, University of Glasgow.
This event was organised by Dr Mark Hall and colleagues at the Perth Museum as part of the programme of events to celebrate the rehoming of the famous national iconic object at the Museum, and Lucy was one of several experts who worked on the advisory committee invited to assist with the reinterpretation of the Stone in its new home. Dr Dean noted:
'The symposium was a great culmination of the work undertaken by all involved in the reinterpretation of the Stone in its new home, and it was honour to speak alongside so many scholars bringing together an exciting variety of perspectives - it's clear there is still so much to say and explore, so this won't be the end of the conversation! Many thanks to Mark Hall and the CPK team for all their hard work.'
If you’re in Perth and haven’t visited, we encourage you to visit the Perth Museum, which displays Perth & Kinross’s Recognised Collection of National Significance and the Stone of Destiny exhibit – both are free of charge!
