Excavations at Perth Whitefriars 2014-18 with Derek Hall

Culture Perth and Kinross and University Of Highland and Island’s Institute for Northern Studies present this Public Seminar

This talk will describe the excavations of Perth’s medieval Carmelite friary in advance of the sites planned redevelopment.  First investigated by the speaker in 1982 and then again in 2008 this new rescue excavation of the remainder of the church, the west range and cloister has discovered a whole variety of unusual burial practices, surviving internal elements of the friary buildings and is providing some unique and important insights into the operation and demise of one of the medieval burghs least understood monastic houses.
