Tours and Info Session: Engineering. Wednesday 26 June, 2pm to 4pm

Ahead of the official opening of our new engineering department, join us on our Stornoway campus to tour the new facilities before anyone else, meet staff and find out about courses and careers in engineering. The space includes:

  • Our Future Energy Lab, which will support the delivery of training, skills and qualifications in energy transition, including hydrogen and renewables.
  • Engineering workshops and study spaces.
  • A Newton Room to provide STEM learning experiences to primary and secondary school pupils.
  • For this special event, we will also have welding simulators for people to try. These virtual welding simulators provide hands-on training with realistic welding scenarios. This equipment has also been used by Mercedes and BMW to train in welding for their cars and now you can try it for yourself.

Drop-in between 2pm and 4pm on Wednesday 26 June. No booking required.

You can also talk to us about careers in the engineering and energy sector. UHI North West and Hebrides works closely with a range of employers to support their training and skills needs. A significant number of jobs will be created in the Outer Hebrides linked to the Just Transition, on and offshore wind developments, and key strategic investments like the Deep Water Terminal in Stornoway and Arnish Fabrication Yard.

The Outer Hebrides Campus Redevelopment Project is one of several projects under the Islands Growth Deal, a ten-year package of investment jointly funded by the UK and Scottish Governments that will seek to drive economic growth and the creation of sustainable jobs across Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides.
