Early years and primary school STEM engagement

The UHI STEM Outreach Programme ran from 2023 to 2026. It included a series of ‘Discovery Kits’ containing themed content, resources and learning plans aligned to the Curriculum for Excellence.

As part of the programme, UHI STEM Outreach Coordinators took Discovery Kits to primary schools across the north of Scotland and worked alongside teachers to deliver the topic in a fun and engaging way.  Sessions were supplied at no cost to the school and there was support for teachers to help develop confidence in their own STEM knowledge.

Discovery Kits are available for each of the STEM subjects and further details of each of the topics - including aims and the relevant Curriculum for Excellence links - can be viewed by clicking on any of the images below.  All of our materials are available in Gaelic to support engagement in Gaelic medium classes.

If you’d like to learn more about the outreach programme and the collection of Discovery Kits, or if you’d like to arrange to borrow resources from the UHI STEM team to run your own Discovery Kit session, please contact the UHI STEM team  at STEM@uhi.ac.uk for further information.
