Institute for Biodiversity and Freshwater Conservation - Seminar Series 2024-25
The Institute for Biodiversity and Freshwater Conservation (IBFC) at UHI Inverness is excited to host a series of public seminars exploring our impactful research on biodiversity and climate change.
We conduct internationally recognised research that has real-world impact and local relevance. Our work tackles fundamental ecological questions and supports conservation and management strategies on a landscape and catchment scale, including issues such as salmon management, rewilding, land-use change, landscape management, and climate change.
Our upcoming public seminars will explore these areas. The first series will highlight:
- The use of cutting-edge molecular methods, such as eDNA, in our role as “environmental detectives.” Professor Bernd Hänfling – Thursday, 27 February, 7pm to 8.30pm.
- How climate change affects the seasonal migrations of iconic species like Atlantic salmon. Dr Samantha Beck – Thursday, 27 March, 7pm to 8.30pm.
- The surprising role of predators in conservation efforts to safeguard their prey. Dr Cristian Navarro Waggershauser – Thursday, 15 May, 7pm to 8.30pm.
