From Papay to Polynesia: a study of tourism in small islands
A popular report from the Institute for Northern Studies on a recent research project on sustainable tourism in the island nation of Vanuatu in Melanesia is now out. In spring 2017, Prof. Donna Heddle and Dr Alex Sanmark went on a research trip to Vanuatu to evaluate the tourism products on offer and see what changes could be made in the future. Based on interviews with stakeholders in Vanuatu, it was concluded that one of the biggest problems for locals in Vanuatu is the lack of tourist guides training and such programme is therefore now in development.
