Team - Department: Grants and Contracts - Finance

The principal role of the Grants and Contracts team is to provide expert support to the university at all stages of the external grant funding life cycle.

At pre award stages we support applicants for funding throughout the planning, preparation and submission stage, including advice on funding opportunities, funder rules and regulations, project costings/budgets, ethics and quality reviews. The team work closely in the review and preparation of legal agreements with the Legal Services team. At post award stages, we support project teams during delivery to help ensure they meet contractual and financial obligations of external grant awards. We track key milestones to ensure they are submitted to the funder’s timeline. We engage with funders, project collaborators and leads to arrange project extensions, grant transfers and compliance audits. Across both the pre and post award stages the team monitor and report important application and live grant activity to the University management structure.

Pay and Benefits

This role is linked to grade 5 on the UHI payscale.

The starting salary for this position will normally be in the range £26,452 to £28,067 per annum. For exceptional candidates a higher salary up to the top of the grade (currently £32,538 per annum) may be available.

This post is full time and will involve working 35 hours per week on a working pattern as agreed with your line manager.

The workplace pension scheme provided to workers at grade five and below is the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). This is a qualifying pension scheme, which means it meets or exceeds the government’s standards. Full information about the scheme can be found on the Highland Council’s Pension Fund website.

Full-time posts carry a total of 39 days leave per annum (pro rata for part-time posts). It is practice that, with the exception of a Christmas and New Year closure, leave may be taken at any time of year, subject to the requirements of the post and department and with the permission of your line manager.
